Our Vision

Our vision is to be a key driver in South Africa’s efforts to become one of the leading bio-economies of the 21st century.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be an OMICS technology platform that provides solutions to bridge innovation gaps and identify opportunities in the development of the SA modern biotech sector.

How We Work

Our exceptional team of experts are committed to finding technical and scientific solutions for your OMICS research under strict quality management principles. Together with the use of modern, cutting-edge integrated technologies the team delivers according to development, regulatory and commercial operations.

CPGR facilitates a seamless conversion of ideas into robust plans in three steps:

1. Bio-consultation

  • Initial consultation with you to understand your research objectives, goals, and specific requirements.
  • We collaboratively define the scope of the project, including the type and scale of OMICS analyses needed.
  • This planning phase ensures alignment with your expectations and project timelines.

2. Bio-solutions

  • OMICS Solutions: Cutting-edge technologies to extract meaningful insights and identify potential biomarkers or key molecular elements
  • Multi-OMICS Solutions: Conduct comprehensive analysis using multi-OMICS approaches to generate high-quality data.
  • Quality Control: Rigorous validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of the obtained OMICS data.

3. Bio-analysis

  • Data Interpretation: Employ advanced analysis tools and algorithms to interpret OMICS data and extract relevant biological information.
  • Customized Analysis: Tailor analysis solutions to address specific research questions and provide actionable results.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Deliver comprehensive reports with clear visualizations, aiding in the interpretation and communication of complex biological findings.

The CPGR Story

The Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) plays a pivotal role in advancing South Africa’s ambition to emerge as a leading bio-economy in the 21st century. As a pioneering force in OMICS technology encompassing Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics, CPGR delivers comprehensive solutions to clients, fostering the growth of the biotechnology sector. Integrating cutting-edge OMICS technologies with bio-computational pipelines, CPGR supports projects in the life sciences and biomedical fields in South Africa, all managed through an ISO 9001:2015 certified and compliant quality management system.

Founded in 2006 through an initiative by the South African Department of Science and Technology (DST; now the Department of Science and Innovation/DSI), CPGR received financial support from the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) to boost bio-economic development. This involved making capital-intensive and costly-to-maintain capacity accessible to scientists in academia and industry, thereby enhancing their capacity for publishing and patenting. CPGR’s OMICS accelerator programs have led to the establishment of Artisan Biomed (established in 2015, now known as Mediclinic Precise) and, more recently, D-CYPHR (2022). Additionally, CPGR hosts DIPLOMICS, a substantial infrastructure program initiated by the DST

Since its inception, CPGR has facilitated over 1200 OMICS research projects, consistently striving to implement the latest OMICS solutions to enrich the biotechnology sector in South Africa.
