About The CPGR

Our non-profit organisation is an all encompassing ecosystem that nurtures and drives Omics research and life science innovation in Africa. Based in Cape Town, the CPGR was formed in 2006 from an initiative by the South African Department of Science anTechnology (DST). Since then, we continuously work to drive South Africa’s effort in becoming one of the leading bio economies in the world.

GENOMICS

We facilitate information-rich genomic applications to provide raw-data for extensive analysis and research development.

PROTEOMICS

We provide proteomic technologies that aid in investigating protein structure, expression and interaction on a system-wide scale.

ROUTINE TESTING

We develop new medical diagnostic applications in partnership with Artisan Biomed.

TRAINING

We build a community of empowered scientists in genomics and proteomics through hosted programs, internships, workshops and online training.

BESPOKE PROJECT DESIGN

We design and develop custom contract research or collaborative projects to drive innovation in the Omics arena.

Quality is integral to our service processes, product development and communication. For this reason, we selected the ISO 9001:2015 certification as our Quality Management System standard. This enables us to generate outputs of the highest quality for our expert research services in genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics.

Testimonials

Thank you for a wonderful foundational course at the CPGR. The course was held in Cape Town in world class facilities at the CPGR premises which are central and easy to find. The presenters were very knowledgeable, easy to communicate with and taught our team a lot of foundational skills which we are currently applying back in our genomic lab facilities. I recommend this course to anyone who would like to gain some invaluable experience within the next generation sequencing and bioinformatics field.

I was pleased with how quickly the CPGR did the work, once the suppliers were overcome. I was VERY pleased to receive such regular, clear progress reports – they were great! Nicki, you were very helpful, answering all my questions in a timely way, and even allowing me to view a plate setup so that I could understand the process. The final report was clearly presented and contained all the information I needed. I was very happy with the service, and my assay results.

Thank you for a very good workshop held. Thanks again for affording us the opportunity to interact with such an erudite in bioinformatics. James is a skillful and patient presenter who knows how to decipher complex programs using smart analogies, and with a great sense of humor if I may add. He even courteously offered us post-workshop consultation service for free.

My interaction with CPGR has always been very satisfactory. They have been extremely efficient with the work I assigned to them and carried out the work timeously. The staff have gone beyond the call of duty when extra assays were required in order to assist me with data acquisition. Laboratory procedures have been transparent and in accordance with protocol.

When I heard the services that you offered to students, I thought that it sounded to good to be true. In your case however, the service was as good and even better than what I expected. You took the time to consult my student and even went to the trouble of coming to our lab and assist him with some of the techniques. Thereafter you kept me updated on every aspect of the project and even supplied us with a concise scientific report and analysis of the data that is extremely useful to the student in his interpretation and thesis write up. Thank you very much!

Dear CPGR team, as genetic health professionals we strive to offer optimal diagnostic tests to our patients, but have struggled with the complexity and cost of implementing new genomic tests. In the CPGR we found the necessary cutting-edge genomic technology and services. We also found something equally important – the collaborative spirit required to make genomic diagnostics a reality. The future looks bright, thank you!

I would like to express my absolute respect and admiration for the CPGR’s fantastic service. We have recently had  a collaboration on a PhD project at the CPGR’s proteomics unit (Dr Zack McDonald). We really appreciated the engagement and interaction between ourselves and Dr. McDonald. His involvement with the data processing,  his advice to the student, and the quality of the data, all contributed to really memorable and excellent service. I have personally waxed lyrical about your services at local conferences and workshops abroad. I really think that this is a great service and wish you well for the future, in supporting researchers to gain access to these facilities at such a good price.

The exome sequencing we had done at the CPGR allowed us to definitively diagnose the first case of Trichohepatoenteric syndrome in South Africa and provide closure to a family who has lost two infant children to this dreaded disease.
